Babassu Butter comes from the kernel of the fruit of the Babassu palm tree which grows in the south-east of the Amazon. The nut is shelled by women organized in a cooperative. They extract the seeds and cold press them mechanically. An organic butter or oil is obtained. Unlike some palm trees (palm oil), Babassu enriches the soil on which it grows. The cultivation of Babassu is part of a program of fair trade and sustainable development.
